Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) refers to the air quality within and around buildings and structures, especially as it relates to the health and comfort of building occupants. Understanding and controlling common pollutants indoors can help reduce your risk of indoor health concerns. Health effects from indoor air pollutants may be experienced soon after exposure or, possibly, years later.
Water leaks and/or moisture intrustion can cause unexpected damages to your property and can be difficult to detect if identified too late. When using a thermal imaging camera under the right circumstances, it’s possible to find hidden water and moisture issues without resorting to destructive testing.
Based on the source of the water intrusion and the extent of the water damage secondary mold growth may be present. Air2Labs will determine if any mold or bacteria sampling is warranted to identify if there is any exposure risk to the building occupants and to what extent. Sampling methods may include indoor air quality testing, swab, and bulk testing. All swabs & bulk samples are sent to a verified 3rd party lab to be cultured and tested within 48 hours.
Moisture maps serve as an invaluable communication tool between Air2Labs, restoration technicians, insurance companies, adjusters, and attorneys by providing invaluable data in cases involving controversy and archiving vital information for reference in future building diagnostic projects.
Humidity or dampness (water vapor) in the air can supply enough moisture for mold growth. Indoor relative humidity (RH) should be kept below 60 percent -- ideally between 30 percent and 50 percent, if possible. Low humidity may also discourage pests (such as cockroaches) and dust mites.
When Air2Labs test the air quality within your home or business, we take three (3) samples of the air in different locations—one sample from outside the property and two samples from inside the property. Additional samples and/or swabs are taken if requested by the client or we find it's necessary based on the information obtained during the initial interview. When the results of the test come in, Air2Labs will compare the inside samples against the outdoor sample (which is called "background" on the report). If any of the inside samples have significantly more mold spores than the outdoor sample, then we determine something is going on within the property.
A protocol is typically written when items or areas have been identified containing an unacceptable amount or type of mold and a client requires an industry recognized method of removal or cleaning instructions.
In order for a written protocol to be provided, a mold assessment should be conducted by a qualified & licensed Mold Assessor. The information that is gathered, which includes but not limited to; a site visit, an interview with the client, room drawings, temperature & relative humidity readings, cause & origin, and sampling (where applicable), are used in to generate the report.
Taking a valuable approach by having your home or business inspected at minimum once a month to protect your investment will prevent financial hardships in the long run. By doing so, you may prevent leaks and/or moisture accumulation that can lead to excessive water damage and also help to avoid mold from growing in your property.
